The best dropshipping products for 2026 are ones with rising demand that are also easy to ship: light, hard to break, and free of heavy regulation. Shopify’s own merchant data points to fast-growing categories such as satchel bags, ankle and footie socks, artificial flowering plants, sport jackets and cargo shorts. These grew between 573% and 1,771% among US Shopify merchants from September 2024 to September 2025. Some faster growers, such as creatine and collagen, sell well but carry supplement rules that make them riskier to dropship. The best-selling categories by total volume are steadier: shirts, skin care, makeup, supplements and pants top Shopify’s 2024 list.
Below I show Shopify’s data, rate each category for dropshipping, and explain how I’d find trending products myself.
Shopify’s fastest-growing product categories
Shopify’s 2026 trending products article lists the categories with the biggest sales growth among US Shopify merchants for September 2025 against September 2024, counting only categories with at least $1 million in revenue. The top of that list:
| Rank | Category | Growth (Sep 2025 vs Sep 2024) | Dropshipping fit |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Creatine | 1,862% | Risky: supplement rules |
| 2 | Satchel bags | 1,771% | Good: light, durable |
| 3 | Electric motorcycles and scooters | 1,730% | Poor: heavy, lithium batteries |
| 4 | Collagen | 1,569% | Risky: supplement rules |
| 5 | Mattress pads | 1,035% | Fair: bulky to ship |
| 6 | Single vitamins | 890% | Risky: supplement rules |
| 7 | Puffer jackets | 849% | Fair: seasonal, sizing returns |
| 8 | Instant coffee | 842% | Fair: food rules apply |
| 9 | Athletic shoes | 818% | Fair: sizing returns |
| 10 | Ankle socks | 779% | Good: light, low returns |
| 11 | Powdered beverage mixes | 682% | Fair: food rules apply |
| 12 | Footie socks | 663% | Good: light, low returns |
| 13 | Lip balms | 658% | Fair: cosmetic rules apply |
| 14 | BMX bikes | 609% | Poor: bulky |
| 15 | Sport jackets | 604% | Fair: sizing returns |
| 16 | Cargo shorts | 602% | Fair: sizing returns |
| 17 | In-line water filters | 601% | Fair: compatibility questions |
| 18 | Motor vehicle electronics | 576% | Fair: compatibility questions |
| 19 | Bakery assortments | 574% | Poor: perishable |
| 20 | Artificial flowering plants | 573% | Good: light, no sizing |
The growth figures are Shopify’s. The “dropshipping fit” column is my judgment, based on weight, breakage, sizing returns and regulation.
One caution: huge percentages often come from small starting points. A category that grew 1,700% may still be smaller than one that grew 20%. Use growth to spot direction, not size.
Shopify’s best-selling categories by volume
The same Shopify article lists the categories that generated the most sales volume for Shopify merchants in 2024:
| Rank | Category | Rank | Category |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Shirts | 11 | Arts and crafting materials |
| 2 | Skin care | 12 | Shampoo and soap |
| 3 | Makeup | 13 | Underwear |
| 4 | Vitamins and supplements | 14 | Bedding |
| 5 | Pants | 15 | Cycling |
| 6 | Dresses | 16 | Hats and accessories |
| 7 | Motor vehicle parts | 17 | Alcoholic beverages |
| 8 | Activewear | 18 | Kitchen appliances |
| 9 | Coats and jackets | 19 | Meat |
| 10 | Sneakers and boots | 20 | Perfume and cologne |
These are big, competitive markets. For dropshipping, I’d look inside them for a narrow angle (a specific style, size range or use) rather than competing on the broad category.
What makes a product good for dropshipping
Shopify’s dropshipping products guide suggests judging products on price, marketing potential, upselling opportunities, low turnover, light weight and scarcity. I’d add three dropshipping-specific tests:
- Will it survive a long trip in a padded mailer? Fragile items create refunds you can’t control.
- Can a shopper get the size or fit right from a listing? If not, returns will eat the margin.
- Does selling it bring legal duties? Supplements, cosmetics, children’s products and batteries do.
Margins set the ceiling. Shopify’s dropshipping explainer puts typical margins for products from open marketplaces at 10% to 15%, and 20% to 50% for products through vetted networks like Shopify Collective. Its products guide gives a wider 10% to 40% range. Either way, there’s little room for returns or high ad costs.
Categories that look tempting but carry rules
Several fast-growing categories come with legal duties that hit a dropshipper too:
| Category | The rule | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Supplements (creatine, collagen, vitamins) | FDA doesn’t approve supplements before sale; they can’t claim to diagnose, treat, cure, mitigate or prevent disease | FDA |
| Cosmetics (lip balm, skin care) | Facilities register, products are listed, serious adverse events reported within 15 business days (MoCRA) | FDA |
| Health claims on any product | Claims need competent and reliable scientific evidence; the FTC has acted against retailers too | FTC |
| Children’s products (age 12 and under) | Importers and manufacturers issue a Children’s Product Certificate based on testing by a CPSC-accepted lab | CPSC |
| Lithium batteries (scooters, gadgets) | USPS limits lithium-ion batteries to 100 Wh; batteries shipped without equipment go by surface only | USPS |
Honestly, none of these make the category off limits. They make it a category where you need a supplier who can show compliance documents. If they can’t, skip it. Our guides to private label supplements and private label lip balm cover those rules in more depth.
How to find trending dropshipping products yourself
Lists like this go stale. Here’s the method I’d use to find your own:
1. Google Trends. Google scales results from 0 to 100 relative to total searches for the place and time. Look at “Rising” related searches, which Google defines as terms with the most significant growth in the period. “Breakout” means growth of more than 5,000%. Google recommends choosing a topic rather than a search term when one is available, because topics group related searches.
2. Amazon Best Sellers and Movers & Shakers. Amazon says Best Sellers lists are based on Best Sellers Rank and updated frequently, while Movers & Shakers shows the biggest gainers in sales rank over the past 24 hours. Use them to spot what’s moving right now.
3. TikTok Creative Center. TikTok describes it as a free, public home for creative resources, and says no login is needed to access it. It’s useful for seeing which product ads and trends are getting attention.
4. Your own data. Once you have a store, your search box, abandoned carts and email clicks show what your visitors want. That beats any public list.
Then validate before you buy anything. A product is worth testing when demand is rising, the margin works after ad costs, a supplier can ship in a reasonable time, and no compliance rule blocks you.
A quick scoring sheet
When I compare candidate products, I score each from 1 to 5 on:
| Factor | What a 5 looks like |
|---|---|
| Demand direction | Rising on Google Trends over 12 months, not one spike |
| Margin after ads | Comfortably positive at your expected ad cost |
| Shipping | Light, compact, hard to break |
| Returns risk | No sizing, simple to use |
| Compliance | No special rules, or a supplier with full documents |
| Differentiation | You can add something: a bundle, better photos, a niche angle |
Anything averaging below 3 goes back on the list. It’s a blunt tool, but it stops impulse launches.
The bigger picture for 2026
Online shopping keeps growing. The US Census Bureau reports e-commerce sales of $340.2 billion in the second quarter of 2026, 17.1% of total retail sales and 12.2% higher than a year earlier. Demand isn’t the hard part. Competition is, because every dropshipper reads the same trend lists.
So my advice is to treat any list, including this one, as a starting point. The winners usually combine a rising category with an angle competitors haven’t covered, such as a specific customer, a better bundle or original video. Our guide to the best dropshipping video ads covers that last part.
