AliExpress Product Research Tool: DS Center, DSers and Other Options

Table of Contents

An AliExpress product research tool helps you find products on AliExpress that are worth selling in your own store, usually by showing sales counts, trends and supplier details. The starting point is AliExpress’s own Dropshipping Center (DS Center), which it calls its official channel connecting you to more than 100 million items and 300,000 suppliers. It has winning-product lists showing recent sold counts, a product analysis section and image search. Developers can use the AliExpress DropShippers API, which includes bestseller feeds. Third-party apps add more: DSers has a free plan with product recommendations and paid plans with trend research, and AutoDS includes product research on every plan. AliExpress data tells you what sells on AliExpress, though, not what will sell in your store, so treat it as a starting signal.

Below I compare the tools, explain what each shows, and give the research routine I’d follow.

AliExpress Dropshipping Center (DS Center)

DS Center is AliExpress’s official hub for dropshippers. Its public page describes it as the official channel to more than 100 million items and 300,000 suppliers. The main sections are:

  • Find Products to Sell: curated lists, including “Winning Products” with recent bestselling items and their sold counts.
  • Product Analysis: a research section for individual products (you’ll need to sign in to use it).
  • Search by image: upload a photo to find the same or similar products.
  • RFQ for product sourcing: request quotes for products you can’t find.
  • Dropshipping API: links to the developer tools.

Signing in unlocks more, including dropshipping prices on some products. We couldn’t confirm the exact metrics inside Product Analysis without an account, so check what it shows for your region once you sign in.

My take: start every research session here. It’s quick, free to browse, and grounded in real orders. It’s AliExpress’s own data, it costs nothing to look, and the sold counts are a reasonable first filter.

AliExpress DropShippers API

If you’re technical, or work with a developer, AliExpress’s Open Platform documents a DropShippers API. It includes:

  • Product API calls, such as getting product details and fetching lists of item IDs from named feeds;
  • Search API calls for text search and image search;
  • Freight, order and payment endpoints for running a store.

The documentation’s sample code uses a feed called “DS bestseller”, which hints at the curated lists available. This route suits stores that want custom dashboards or automated sourcing. For most sellers, an app built on top of it is simpler.

Third-party apps: DSers, AutoDS and Zendrop

DSers is the best-known AliExpress companion for Shopify. Its free Basic plan includes AliExpress and 1688 product recommendations. Advanced, at $19.90 a month, adds TikTok trend videos, and Pro, at $49.90 a month, adds AI supplier selection and Dropshipping Center features. Paid plans have a 14-day free trial. DSers’ own pricing page also places trending-product rankings by tier, with higher tiers seeing higher-ranked products.

AutoDS lists product research on all its plans, starting with Import 200 at $26.90 a month and a 3-day free trial. Its hand-picked winning products come as a paid add-on. AutoDS works with several sources, so check that your chosen supplier is supported.

Zendrop has a free plan with access to over 1 million products and lists top winning products on all plans. It’s an alternative if you’d rather avoid long AliExpress shipping times.

Honestly, I’d start with DS Center and DSers’ free plan. Pay for more only when you’re researching many products a week. Until then, free tools and careful reading go a long way.

How to read AliExpress data

AliExpress numbers are useful but easy to misread. Here’s how I’d interpret them:

  • Sold counts show past demand on AliExpress, often from buyers worldwide. They don’t prove your audience wants it.
  • Ratings and reviews tell you about product quality and supplier reliability. Read the newest reviews, especially the photo reviews.
  • Supplier history matters. A store with a long track record and consistent ratings is safer than a new one with one viral product.
  • Shipping options decide your customer experience. A great product with slow delivery creates refunds.

In practice, I’d treat an AliExpress bestseller as a hypothesis. The test is whether your audience buys it at a price that covers ads, fees and returns.

A product research routine using AliExpress

  1. Browse DS Center’s winning products in your niche and note ten candidates.
  2. Check each supplier: ratings, recent reviews, years active, shipping options to your market.
  3. Look outside AliExpress. Search Google Trends and social platforms to see whether interest is rising or fading.
  4. Check competition: search your market for stores already selling it, and note their prices.
  5. Estimate margin after product cost, shipping, ads, payment fees and returns.
  6. Order samples of your top two or three. Check quality, packaging and delivery time.
  7. Test with a small budget before scaling.

Step 6 is non-negotiable for me. Photos on AliExpress can look nothing like the product that arrives, and the only way to know what your customer will unbox, feel and judge is to unbox it yourself, ideally from two different suppliers at the same time so you can compare them side by side.

Vetting an AliExpress supplier before you commit

Finding a product is half the job. The supplier behind it decides whether customers get what they ordered, on time.

Start with the store page. How long has it been trading? Are ratings consistent across many orders, or propped up by a handful? Then read the reviews from the last month. Old praise means little if quality slipped recently.

Message the supplier. Ask three things: can they ship without invoices or promotional inserts, how long does processing take before dispatch, and which shipping methods reach your main market fastest. A quick, specific reply is a good sign. Silence for days is not.

Watch for warning signs:

  • Prices far below every other listing for the same item.
  • Photos that look like a famous brand’s product.
  • Reviews that repeat the same few phrases.
  • No answer about shipping times.

Finally, compare two or three suppliers for your top product. Same item, different stores. Order from each if you can. You’ll often find the cheapest listing ships slowest, or arrives in worse packaging.

Shipping times: the factor that decides reviews

On AliExpress, product quality gets most of the attention. Delivery time matters just as much to your customer.

Check each product’s shipping options to your target country before you list it. Faster methods cost more but cut refund requests and “where is my order?” emails. If a product only ships slowly, say so clearly on your product page and at checkout.

Honestly, I’d rather sell a slightly less exciting product that arrives in a week than a viral one that takes a month. Customers forgive an ordinary product. They rarely forgive a long wait with no updates.

Mistakes with AliExpress product research

  • Chasing the highest sold counts. Those products are often the most saturated.
  • Ignoring shipping times. Slow delivery is the top cause of complaints in AliExpress dropshipping.
  • Copying supplier photos and descriptions. Every competitor uses them too.
  • Skipping supplier checks. One unreliable supplier can sink a store.
  • Treating research as a one-off. Trends change. Re-check your best sellers regularly, at least monthly.

Where AliExpress fits in your sourcing

AliExpress is a good place to find ideas and test cheaply. Many stores later move winning products to faster suppliers, US or EU warehouses, or private label. Our guides to dropshipping suppliers for Shopify, finding private suppliers for dropshipping and the best dropshipping products cover the next steps. For the apps that support a store, see the best apps for dropshipping.

In my view, the stores that last use AliExpress for discovery, not as a permanent supply chain. Once a product proves itself, faster shipping and better margins usually come from elsewhere.
