The Mount Rushmore State has a very low population. So, there is not a lot of Amazon footprint there. Most of it is handled by 3rd party shipping from UPS, the postal service, or Fedex.

However, a big fulfillment center is scheduled to open. We will discuss that later in the article. But first, let’s dive into the list of existing Amazon warehouse facilities in South Dakota.

Geographical Understanding of The Population Centers of the State of South Dakota and Amazon Warehouses

South Dakota is a sparsely populated region. There is an easter block with the second most populated city, Rapid City, and other prominent cities like Huron. There aren’t any fulfillment centers there. But one is scheduled to open in 2025.

The eastern region, which has the largest population, has all the current warehouse facilities. All the warehouse facilities in the bordering states are also in the eastern region. There isn’t any warehouse in the middle of the state, which also has the third-most populous city, Aberdeen.

Detailed Discussion of Warehouse Locations in North Dakota

There are only two establishments of Amazon warehouses in North Dakota. So, nothing much to say here. Read along –

1. Amazon Fulfillment Center, Minnehaha County – FSD1

Address: 6700 N Marion Rd, Sioux Falls, SD 57107, United States

Currently, this is the primary fulfillment center for the whole state. However, this only handles items under eighteen inches. For more oversized items, you have a separate distribution center.

This huge facility has over 640,000 square feet of space and can handle eight million items a week. However, it is a partial capacity.

Even with this high load, the warehouse maintains great customer and employee satisfaction. Products are delivered on time, and the working conditions are favorable, to say the least.

The location is just north of Sioux Falls. Take Interstate 29 or any other road north of Sioux City to get to the warehouse. Don’t confuse it with Sioux City in Iowa, which is adjacent to the borders of South Dakota.

2. Amazon Distribution Center, Minnehaha County

Address: 820 East 60th St N, Sioux Falls, SD 57104, United States

This facility takes in all the large and high-quantity products and delivers them to the fulfillment centers and other 3rd party logistical companies working with Amazon.

You can take the Cliff Avenue road and then drive west along the east 60th street to find this distribution center. It is also located in the north of the city where the traffic is less.

The Sioux Fall regional airport is nearby to receive airborne cargo. And both of these facilities play a huge role in making the logistics of large items easier.

The facility has quite a good reputation. But there are complaints from the consumers that the deliveries are late and there are problems with late delivery. However, it is understandable that the facility is not built for last-mile delivery. It handles large quantities and rarely gives out items to consumers.

Future Warehouses

On January 30th, Amazon officials broke the ground for a new Amazon distribution center. It will be in the eastern part of South Dakota in Box Elder City, serving the population hub of the eastern part of the state.

This is big news for the state. It is expected to be completed by 2025, which will, of course, bring many employment opportunities to the state’s growing population.

Conclusion

This is everything about Amazon warehouse locations in South Dakota. It is not as much as the other states but again, South Dakota is one of the least populous states.

So, one fulfillment center along with one distribution center and one yet-to-be-opened distribution center is enough for the region.
