The best private label candle companies for a new brand are the ones with low minimums, a wax and scent range that fits your positioning, and clean safety paperwork. Six US makers stand out on published terms: Candle Builders and Silver Dollar Candleworks sell in cases of 12, Ella B. Candles starts at 25 pieces, ROAM Homegrown at 40 units, Unique Custom Candles at 50 per scent, and Lumient at 120 units.
Below is the comparison, then what I’d check before ordering, the US safety rules every candle must meet, and how to sell candles on Amazon.
Private label candle companies compared
All minimums and wax details come from each company’s own website, checked in October 2026.
| Company | Location | Published minimum | Wax |
|---|---|---|---|
| Candle Builders | New Hampshire | Sold in increments of 12 candles | 100% soy wax made in the USA |
| Silver Dollar Candleworks | Tennessee | A single case (12 candles) | Coconut, soy and beeswax bases |
| Ella B. Candles | North Carolina | 25 pieces | 100% pure soy |
| ROAM Homegrown | Not stated | Standard programs begin at 40 units | Soy |
| Unique Custom Candles | California | 50 units per scent | Natural wax blends |
| Lumient | California | 120 units | US-made soy wax |
How I’d use this list. For a first test, start with a case-of-12 maker so you can try three or four scents without tying up cash. Move a winning scent to a maker with bigger runs and better unit pricing once it sells. Luxury positioning? Ask about vessel options, custom labels and boxed packaging before price.
What to check before you order
- Wax and wick. Soy, coconut, beeswax or blends burn differently. Ask for burn test results in your exact vessel.
- Fragrance load and throw. Ask what percentage of fragrance they use and request samples to test cold and hot throw.
- Safety labeling. Does every candle carry the standard fire safety warning? (See below.)
- Lead-free wicks. Ask for confirmation in writing.
- Custom options. Your own scent, vessel, lid, label and box, and the minimums for each.
- Lead times, especially before Q4, when candle demand peaks.
When you get samples, burn each for a few hours at a time, several times. Tunneling, soot and weak throw show up on the second or third burn, not the first. Don’t skip that test.
The US safety rules every candle must meet
Lead wicks are banned. Since October 15, 2003, candles made or imported with metal-cored wicks are banned in the US unless the lead in the metal core is no more than 0.06% of its weight. The CPSC expects a General Certificate of Conformity citing that rule.
Safety standards. The CPSC lists two ASTM standards for candles as voluntary standards: ASTM F2058 for fire safety labeling and ASTM F2417 for fire safety (flame height, tip-over, secondary ignition and end-of-life). The National Candle Association, which helped develop them, describes the F2058 warning as covering burning within sight, keeping candles away from things that can catch fire, and keeping them out of reach of children. In my view, any serious private label maker should already meet both. If a supplier hasn’t heard of them, keep looking.
Selling private label candles on Amazon
- Claims. Keep wording to scent, mood and decor. “Calms anxiety” or “reduces stress” are health claims. Amazon staff have flagged aromatherapy candles for exactly that kind of wording.
- Safety paperwork. Keep your General Certificate of Conformity and test results ready in case Amazon or a marketplace partner asks.
- Images and gifting. Candles sell on visuals. Lifestyle images and gift sets help, especially in Q4.

FAQ
What is the minimum order for private label candles?
Published minimums from US makers start at a case of 12 candles and run to 25, 40, 50 per scent, and 120 units, depending on the company.
Are private label candles regulated in the US?
Yes. Lead-cored wicks are banned unless the core contains no more than 0.06% lead, and the CPSC lists ASTM F2058 (labeling) and F2417 (fire safety) as the voluntary safety standards for candles.
Which wax is best for private label candles?
Soy is the most common choice among US private label makers; coconut and beeswax blends suit premium lines. Test burn performance in your vessel before deciding.
Can I create my own candle scent with a private label company?
Many makers offer custom scents and vessels, usually at higher minimums than their stock range. Ask each company for its custom terms.
Can I sell private label candles on Amazon?
Yes. Keep claims to scent and decor, avoid health claims such as stress or anxiety relief, and keep safety documents on file.
What safety label do candles need?
The ASTM F2058 standard sets the fire safety warning, covering burning within sight, keeping away from flammable items, and keeping out of reach of children.
