Share this post :

Although Amazon has built hundreds of warehouses all over the United States, Rhode Island is one of those locations where the company hasn’t made its mark yet. In fact, the very first Amazon facility in Rhode Island was opened in 2020.

However, the few warehouses in the state brought numerous new jobs and exciting business opportunities for the locals. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find any reliable sources listing the Amazon warehouse locations in Rhode Island and related details.

Therefore, for local Amazon associates, I’ve tracked down the warehouse maps, zip codes, and other necessary info about each facility. Let’s dive right in!

Everything You Need to Know About the Amazon Facilities in Rhode Island

1. Amazon Delivery Station, Providence County – DRI1

Address: 115 Dupont Dr, Providence, RI 02907, United States

With the DRI1 warehouse, Amazon built its first facility in Rhode Island in late 2020. The warehouse isn’t a fulfillment center, but rather a delivery station for last-mile deliveries.

From the DRI1 facility, packages are shipped to all the major neighborhood areas including Pawtucket, Greenville, Johnston, West Warwick, Coventry, and Cranston. It takes 8 to 10 minutes to drive to the warehouse from BankNewport City Center.

Hartford Avenue (Route 6) is the major transportation route near the warehouse. It’s easily accessible from other notable highways running inside the city such as Route 10, I-295, and I-95.

Trucks arrive in the warehouse via these routes from the nearest fulfillment center. After that, employees of the warehouse load them on conveyor belts and prepare the packages for delivery.

On average, most employees can earn $18 per hour depending on their positions. While the work environment is like any other typical fast-paced Amazon warehouse, truck drivers often complain about the inefficiency of the workers.

Their reviews shed light on long loading hours, no response from the management upon arrival, and unorganized parking.

2. Amazon Fulfillment Center, Province County – PVD2

Address: 2120 Hartford Ave, Johnston, RI 02919, United States

A newly opened Amazon fulfillment center in Johnston, the PVD2 facility opened in 2021. It covers more than 3 million square feet of area and houses around 1,000 employees. The average hourly pay rate for PVD2 warehouse employees is $17.80 based on their designation and work hours.

For easy access to the whole Province County, the warehouse is strategically located near US Route 6 and Interstate Highway I-295.

Packages are shipped from the warehouse to both suburban and city areas in the neighborhood including Greenville, Thronton, Graniteville, and Hartford Avenue area. If you take a traffic-free route, you can get to the warehouse in 12 minutes from the city center.

3. Amazon Distribution Center, Province County (Under Development)

Address: 2160 Hartford Ave, Johnston, RI 02919, United States

One of the largest Amazon warehouses in the world, this facility in Johnston sits vacant even after the completion of the facility. Since 2021, the development and opening of this warehouse have been delayed multiple times.

The warehouse covers a huge 4 million square feet of area and stands six stories tall. Amazon promised at least 1,500 new jobs with the opening of the facility.

However, due to logistics, supply chain, and inflation issues, the development of the distribution center was halted for months. According to the latest news, it’s all set to open in December 2024.

As workers in this distribution center, employees will be responsible for sorting, processing, and storing Amazon packages. Apart from human workers, the company will also utilize advanced robotics to safely sort and scan the orders.

While the exact pay rate is unknown, the employees are expected to get $17 per hour in their initial working phase. From the city center, you can drive to the warehouse in 14 to 16 minutes only through the US-40 or I-295 routes.

Wrapping Up!

Despite all the green signals from the state authorities and city mayors, Amazon’s development in Rhode Island isn’t displaying any positive light.

The low population in the state, increasing taxes, and inflation are the reasons why the e-commerce giant hasn’t increased its footprint in the state. As of now, aspiring Amazon associates can wait for the opening of the Johnston warehouse to secure high-paying jobs there.
