That is not the hard part. The hard part is knowing which two numbers to compare and what the comparison means, which is what this guide is about.

We read these reports across client accounts weekly as an Amazon SPN Verified Partner. Below is the interpretation, not the tour.

Getting to them

Reports, then Business Reports in Seller Central. Two groups matter:

By Date shows aggregate performance over a period, including the Sales and Traffic report.

By ASIN shows performance per product. Three variants exist: by parent item, by child item, and by ASIN. Parent aggregates a variation family, child breaks out each size or color.

Export to CSV for anything beyond a glance. Pivot tables in a spreadsheet answer questions the interface will not, and I’d do that monthly at minimum. We tested building this into a recurring routine for clients and it consistently surfaced things the dashboard view had hidden for months.

One important limitation people discover late: Business Reports do not include advertising data. Ad spend, impressions, and attributed sales live in the Amazon Ads console. Any analysis of profitability needs both, and reading only one gives a confidently wrong answer.

The metrics that matter, and what they actually mean

Sessions. Unique visits to your detail page within a 24 hour window. One shopper visiting four times in an afternoon counts as one session.

Page Views. Total page loads including repeats. That same shopper counts as four.

The gap between them is informative. A high page views to sessions ratio means people are returning to look again, which usually means they are comparing rather than deciding.

Units Ordered. Products ordered in the period. Note ordered rather than shipped, which matters at month end and during promotions, since orders placed on the 31st ship in the following month.

Ordered Product Sales. Revenue from those orders, before Amazon’s fees and before returns. This is not your profit and it is not your payout.

Unit Session Percentage. Units ordered divided by sessions. Your conversion rate, and the number with the most influence over everything else. Note it uses units rather than orders, so a shopper buying three of something inflates it relative to an order-based measure.

Buy Box Percentage. The share of page views where you held the Featured Offer. Below 100% on a listing you share means competitors are taking the sale from your own traffic, and it is one of the most under-read numbers on the report.

Average Selling Price. Useful for spotting whether a repricer has quietly drifted downward while you were not looking. I’ve found this catches more slow margin erosion than any dedicated pricing report.

The four diagnoses Amazon Business Reports support

Here is the actual method. Take conversion and traffic together and one of four pictures emerges.

Low traffic

Healthy traffic

Low conversion

Fix conversion first, then visibility

Listing problem

Healthy conversion

Visibility problem

Working, scale it

Low traffic, healthy conversion. People who arrive buy. You need more of them. Work on ranking and advertising, covered in our guides to Best Sellers Rank and ad placement.

Healthy traffic, low conversion. People arrive and leave. This is a listing, price, review, or Buy Box problem. Spending more on advertising here loses money faster. Fix the product detail page first.

Low on both. Fix conversion before visibility, always. Sending traffic to a page that does not convert is buying an expensive lesson.

Healthy on both. Scale it and protect the inventory, because a stockout here is the most expensive thing that can happen to you.

In our experience most sellers arrive convinced they have a traffic problem, and roughly half of them have a conversion problem instead. I’d run this diagnosis before spending anything.

On benchmarks

A word of caution, because this topic attracts confident numbers.

You will find published figures for what conversion rate Amazon sellers should expect, and for what annual growth is normal. Almost none cite a source you can check, and category variation is so wide that a single figure is close to meaningless. Competitive categories where shoppers compare extensively convert lower. Narrow categories with distinctive products convert higher.

Your own trend is the only benchmark worth managing against. Compare this month to last month, this year to last year, and this ASIN to your other ASINs. If you want an external comparison, your category peers are the closest useful thing, and I would treat any published universal number with suspicion.

Reading the ASIN reports properly

This is where the value is, because aggregate numbers hide everything interesting.

Sort by sessions descending. Your top listings by traffic are where a conversion improvement produces the most money. A one point conversion gain on your busiest ASIN beats a five point gain on a listing nobody visits.

Find high traffic, low conversion listings. These are your best opportunities, and they are usually obvious once sorted. Something is wrong on those pages and it is costing you traffic you already paid for.

Check child variations separately. Parent-level data hides the fact that one color sells and four do not. That is an inventory decision, an advertising decision, and sometimes a discontinuation decision.

Watch Buy Box percentage on shared listings. A dropping number means a competitor is winning your traffic. Our guide to automated pricing covers responding to that without racing to the bottom.

Look for sudden changes rather than absolute values. A listing whose sessions halved last week has a specific cause: a rank drop, a stockout, a suppressed listing, or a new competitor. Absolute numbers rarely prompt action. Changes always do.

Three traps in the numbers

Worth knowing, because each one produces a confidently wrong conclusion.

Ordered is not shipped, and neither is paid. Ordered Product Sales counts orders placed, before returns and before Amazon’s fees. Your settlement report will show a different and smaller number. Reconciling the two is a monthly job, not a discrepancy to investigate.

Units inflate conversion. Unit Session Percentage divides units by sessions rather than orders by sessions, so a multipack or a customer buying three lifts it. Two listings with identical order counts can show quite different conversion figures for this reason alone.

Small numbers lie loudly. A listing with 40 sessions in a week will show conversion swinging wildly for no reason worth acting on. In my experience anything under roughly 100 sessions a week needs a longer window before the percentage means anything, and reacting to it wastes an afternoon.

Pairing the reports with everything else

Business Reports answer what happened on your detail pages. Three other sources answer why, and the combination is where decisions actually come from.

The Amazon Ads console tells you how much of that traffic you paid for. A session is a session in Business Reports whether it arrived free or at $1.40 a click, which is why judging a listing on conversion alone can flatter an expensive one.

Inventory reports explain sudden collapses. A listing whose sessions vanished on a Tuesday was frequently out of stock on the Monday, and no amount of staring at conversion data reveals that.

Search term reports, if you have Brand Registry, tell you which queries are producing the traffic. Two listings with identical session counts can be attracting completely different intent, and that changes what a poor conversion figure means.

Settlement reports are the only place the actual money appears. Everything above measures activity. This measures outcome, and I’d reconcile the two at least monthly.

A weekly routine that works

Sales and Traffic by date, last 30 days against the previous 30. Direction first.

Detail Page Sales and Traffic by child ASIN, sorted by sessions. Where the traffic is.

Flag anything whose conversion moved more than a couple of points in either direction and find out why.

Check Buy Box percentage on every listing you share with other sellers.

Cross-reference against the ads console, since Business Reports alone cannot tell you whether the traffic was bought or earned.

Check days of inventory remaining on anything trending upward.

Twenty minutes, weekly. I’ve found the sellers who do this catch problems while they are still cheap, and the ones who do not find out from a settlement report six weeks later.

If you would rather have this watched than remembered, that sits inside our account management service, and an account audit is the one-off version.

FAQ

What are Amazon Business Reports?

Reports in Seller Central showing traffic and sales performance for your listings, including sessions, page views, units ordered, sales, Buy Box percentage, and conversion rate. They are grouped by date and by ASIN, and they exclude advertising data entirely.

What is the difference between sessions and page views?

Sessions count unique visits within a 24 hour window, while page views count every page load including repeat visits. One shopper checking a listing four times in an afternoon is one session and four page views.

What is Unit Session Percentage on Amazon?

Units ordered divided by sessions, which is your conversion rate. It is the single most useful number in Business Reports because it tells you whether your problem is getting people to the page or convincing them once they arrive.

What is a good conversion rate on Amazon?

It varies so widely by category that published universal figures are close to meaningless, and most cite no verifiable source. Manage against your own trend and your category peers rather than an external benchmark.

Do Amazon Business Reports include advertising data?

No. Ad spend, impressions, clicks, and attributed sales live in the Amazon Ads console. Analyzing profitability requires both sources, since Business Reports alone cannot tell you whether traffic was bought or earned.

How often should I check Amazon Business Reports?

Weekly for most sellers. Daily produces noise rather than insight, and monthly finds problems a month late. A twenty minute weekly review catches issues while they are still inexpensive to fix.

Last updated: August 29, 2026.
