Two of those four Amazon gives you free<\/strong>, and better than a third party can, because Amazon’s numbers
\nare Amazon’s numbers rather than estimates. In our experience sellers pay monthly for estimates of data
\nalready sitting in their own account.<\/p>\n

We name no winner and publish no prices.<\/strong> An earlier version of this page listed ten tools with specific
\nmonthly fees. Those figures were stale within months and we could not stand behind them, so they are gone.
\nWhat follows is how to choose.<\/p>\n

Before buying tools for Amazon SEO keyword ranking, use the free data<\/h2>\n

Three sources. Exhaust them first. Buy nothing until you have.<\/p>\n

Your advertising search term report.<\/strong> The actual phrases shoppers typed before clicking your ads. No
\ntool can improve on this<\/strong> because it is not an estimate, it is your product’s real demand. I’d read it
\nbefore any purchase decision.<\/p>\n

Brand Analytics, if you have Brand Registry.<\/strong> Search Frequency Rank tells you how much demand a term

Amazon autocomplete and the ASIN index check.<\/strong> Autocomplete surfaces real phrasing. Searching a term

What free will not give you:<\/strong> rank tracking over time, and a bulk reverse lookup on somebody else’s
\nASIN. Those two are the honest case for paying.<\/p>\n

A decision path, if you want one line<\/h2>\n

The four-job framing is useful. It also still leaves you choosing, so here is a shortcut.<\/p>\n

One product, category you know, no Brand Registry.<\/strong> Buy nothing yet. Mine autocomplete, read three
\ncompetitor listings, read your own search term report once you are advertising. I’d revisit in a quarter.<\/p>\n

One product, category you know, Brand Registry.<\/strong> Buy nothing. Brand Analytics covers demand and
\nSearch Query Performance covers your own share. In our experience this describes a large share of sellers
\nwho are paying subscriptions.<\/p>\n

A handful of products, and you are making listing changes you want to measure.<\/strong> Buy rank tracking only.
\nThat history is the thing you genuinely cannot reconstruct after the fact, and I’d start it before the
\nnext listing edit rather than after.<\/p>\n

Twenty or more products, or an unfamiliar category.<\/strong> A suite starts making sense, chiefly for discovery
\nbreadth and bulk reverse lookup. Buy a month, run the five-term test below, and cancel without
\nsentimentality if it fails.<\/p>\n

Competitive research as a recurring job.<\/strong> Reverse lookup is the one capability with no free equivalent
\nat scale, so this is the clearest paid case on the page. I’d still treat every number it produces as an
\nestimate.<\/p>\n

A pattern I keep seeing.<\/strong> Sellers buy the suite at product one and use a tenth of it for two years.
\nThe subscription becomes invisible, nobody audits it, and the free data in their own account stays unread.
\nWhen I have asked people to open their search term report during a call, it was frequently the first time.<\/p>\n

Job one: discovery<\/h2>\n

Finding phrasings that never occurred to you. Breadth, essentially.<\/p>\n

What a tool adds:<\/strong> breadth and speed. A large seed-expansion database surfaces phrasings you would not
\nreach by hand, and I’d value that most in a category you have never sold in.<\/p>\n

What it cannot supply:<\/strong> judgment about whether a phrase genuinely describes your product. A tool hands
\nyou 400 candidates and perhaps 40 survive scrutiny,<\/strong> so the winnowing remains yours. That winnowing is where
\nthe value hides, in our experience, and no subscription performs it.<\/p>\n

When it is worth paying:<\/strong> a catalog above roughly 20 products, or a category you do not know well. In our experience the threshold is lower than sellers hope and higher than vendors claim.<\/p>\n

When it is not:<\/strong> one product in a category you understand. An hour of autocomplete mining and reading
\ncompetitor titles gets you most of it. I’d do that first regardless.<\/p>\n

Job two: demand sizing, where you should not pay<\/h2>\n

The job vendors market hardest. Also the one they perform worst.<\/p>\n

Search volume figures from any vendor are estimates<\/strong>, extrapolated from scraped result pages. Amazon
\npublishes absolute search volumes to nobody. Not to agencies, not to vendors, not to sellers.<\/p>\n

Brand Analytics gives you Amazon’s own ranking of demand.<\/strong> Not a volume, a rank, which is less
\nsatisfying and considerably more reliable. I’d take an authoritative rank over an estimated number every
\ntime.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Where the estimates mislead:<\/strong> they tend to be directionally sensible and numerically confident, which is
\na bad combination. A seller builds a forecast on a number nobody stands behind, and I’ve watched that forecast survive into a board deck.<\/p>\n

If you lack Brand Registry<\/strong>, this is a genuine gap and an estimate is better than nothing. It is also
\nanother argument for getting Brand Registry, which is free once you hold a trademark. Our guide to

Job three: rank tracking<\/h2>\n

The clearest case for paying. Also the one sellers consider least.<\/p>\n

What it does:<\/strong> logs your organic position for nominated terms, daily, indefinitely. That accumulated
\nhistory is precisely the asset you cannot reconstruct retrospectively.<\/p>\n

Why it matters:<\/strong> it is the only way to attribute a listing change to a ranking movement. Without it you
\nhave a before-and-after feeling rather than evidence, and in my experience feelings are generous to whoever made the change.<\/p>\n

What to check before buying:<\/strong> how many terms and ASINs the plan covers, whether it tracks your
\nmarketplace, how often it samples, and whether you can export the history. The export question is the one
\npeople forget,<\/strong> and I’d ask it before signing.<\/p>\n

A free substitute at small scale:<\/strong> check manually, weekly, for 5 terms, and record it in a
\nspreadsheet. Tedious and entirely workable for one product. Above 5 terms I’d pay rather than persevere.<\/p>\n

Job four: competitor reverse lookup<\/h2>\n

The genuine capability gap. Amazon supplies nothing whatsoever here.<\/p>\n

What it does:<\/strong> you enter a competitor’s ASIN and get an estimated list of terms it ranks for. Amazon
\nhas no equivalent, and no free workaround does this in bulk.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The caveats are substantial.<\/strong> Estimated, over-reported, and padded with phrases the ASIN nominally
\noccupies at position 200. The export demands filtering before it signifies anything at all.<\/p>\n

The free alternative operates one term at a time.<\/strong> Search a phrase alongside their ASIN and observe
\nwhether they surface. Reliable. Slow. Perfectly adequate for a handful.<\/p>\n

When to pay:<\/strong> competitive research across many ASINs, or entering an unfamiliar category where you need
\nthe lay of the land quickly. I’d buy a month rather than a year, and in our experience the annual discount is rarely worth the commitment.<\/p>\n

How to evaluate one in a trial<\/h2>\n

Four tests. The first eliminates most candidates outright.<\/p>\n

Does it find the terms you already know you rank for?<\/strong> Take five terms you are certain about. If the
\ntool misses them, its estimates for terms you do not know are worthless. This single test is the most
\nuseful thing you can do with a trial,<\/strong> and in our experience almost nobody runs it.<\/p>\n

Does it cover your marketplace properly?<\/strong> Coverage outside the US is frequently thinner than the
\nmarketing suggests. Test with your own products, in your own storefront, and I’d not accept a demo account as evidence.<\/p>\n

Can you export?<\/strong> If your history is locked inside the tool, you are renting your own data.<\/p>\n

Is the interface something anybody will genuinely open each month?<\/strong> A platform nobody signs into is a
\nrecurring invoice masquerading as capability. I’d prefer a plain instrument somebody actually consults.<\/p>\n

What no tools for Amazon SEO keyword ranking will do for you<\/h2>\n

Four limits. Internalize them before spending anything.<\/p>\n

Decide relevance.<\/strong> Only you know what your product actually is. Every tool over-reports, the filtering remains
