You must be the brand owner or manufacturer.<\/strong> Not a program for resellers, and in our experience that ends the conversation for many enquirers.<\/p>\n

GTINs for the products you intend to enroll<\/strong>, since enrollment operates per GTIN rather than per brand. I’d list them before applying.<\/p>\n

A way to apply a unique code to every unit.<\/strong> Either your factory applies them or you do. This is the
\noperational commitment, and I’d confirm the factory can do it before applying<\/strong> rather than after.<\/p>\n

Volume that justifies the work.<\/strong> Codes carry a per-unit cost that declines at higher volume, so the
\narithmetic shifts considerably with scale. I’d model it at your actual annual units rather than your hoped-for ones.<\/p>\n

Getting Transparency codes for Amazon, and what it actually costs<\/h2>\n

Apply through Brand Registry<\/strong> and expect Amazon to enquire about your manufacturing and your counterfeit
\nproblem. Both questions, and I’d prepare specifics for each.<\/p>\n

Order codes once approved.<\/strong> They arrive as unique identifiers, to be printed or applied as labels.<\/p>\n

Codes are priced per unit and tiered by volume.<\/strong> The rate falls as you order more, and Amazon has revised

Amazon scans on the way out.<\/strong> Uncoded units are stopped. No exceptions, and in my experience that includes yours.<\/p>\n

The cost that is not the code price:<\/strong> the labeling step itself. Factory application adds to your unit
\ncost. Doing it yourself adds labor per unit and a bottleneck before every shipment. I’d cost both before
\ndeciding.<\/p>\n

The operational commitment, described honestly<\/h2>\n

This is the part that decides success, and vendor material rarely dwells on it.<\/p>\n

Every unit, forever, without exception.<\/strong> Enrollment is not a campaign you run for a quarter. Once a GTIN
\nis enrolled, an uncoded unit cannot ship, so the labeling step joins your production process permanently.<\/p>\n

Factory application is the version that works.<\/strong> Your manufacturer receives the codes, applies them
\nduring assembly or packaging, and your workflow barely changes. Ask whether they can do this before you
\nenroll,<\/strong> because retrofitting the capability onto an unwilling supplier is genuinely difficult.<\/p>\n

Self-application is the version that quietly fails.<\/strong> Somebody in your warehouse applying labels to every
\nunit before every shipment. Manageable at 200 units monthly. Miserable at 2,000. The bottleneck grows
\nprecisely as your product succeeds,<\/strong> which is the cruelest possible timing, and in our experience it is
\nwhere enrolled brands abandon the program.<\/p>\n

Supplier changes reset the risk.<\/strong> A new factory, a revised carton, a different packer. Each is a fresh
\nopportunity for an unlabeled run, and an unlabeled run is inventory you cannot sell through Amazon.<\/p>\n

Reconciliation matters too.<\/strong> Codes ordered against codes applied against units shipped. If those three
\nfigures drift apart, you discover it at a fulfillment center rather than in a spreadsheet. I’d reconcile
\nmonthly, deliberately.<\/p>\n

What I’d conclude from all of that.<\/strong> Transparency is a supply chain decision wearing a brand protection
\nbadge. If your manufacturing is stable and your factory cooperative, it works well. If either is shaky, the
\nprogram will expose that before it stops any counterfeiter.<\/p>\n

When Transparency is worth it<\/h2>\n

Four situations where the arithmetic works.<\/p>\n

You have an active counterfeit problem<\/strong> and takedowns are not keeping pace. This is precisely what the program exists
\nfor, and in our experience it genuinely works.<\/p>\n

Your product is valuable enough<\/strong> that the per-unit code and labeling expense amounts to a rounding error beside
\nmargin. I’d want that gap to be obvious rather than marginal.<\/p>\n

Your factory can apply codes<\/strong> as part of production, which removes the operational burden almost
\nentirely. This single factor decides it for most brands,<\/strong> in our experience.<\/p>\n

You are fighting unauthorized sellers on your own ASIN.<\/strong> Blocking uncoded supply is more effective than
\narguing with each seller individually.<\/p>\n

When it is not<\/h2>\n

Four situations where I would not.<\/p>\n

Low-priced, high-volume products.<\/strong> A per-unit charge plus a labeling step against a thin margin rarely
\nsurvives contact with a spreadsheet. I’d run that spreadsheet first.<\/p>\n

No genuine counterfeit problem.<\/strong> Enrolling defensively imposes permanent expenditure against a hypothesis, and I’d
\nsooner see that budget spent acquiring customers.<\/p>\n

A factory that cannot or will not apply codes<\/strong>, leaving you labeling by hand before every shipment. That
\nbottleneck grows exactly as you succeed.<\/p>\n

Frequent packaging or supplier changes.<\/strong> Each alteration presents another opportunity for an unlabeled run, and an
\nunlabeled run is dead stock.<\/p>\n

A test I’d apply.<\/strong> Multiply your annual unit volume by the per-unit code cost, add the labeling labor,
\nand compare it against what counterfeits actually cost you last year. If you cannot estimate the second
\nnumber, you are not ready to make this decision,<\/strong> and I’d measure before enrolling.<\/p>\n

What to do instead, or alongside<\/h2>\n

Transparency is one tool among several, and it is not the first one.<\/p>\n

Report a Violation in Brand Registry<\/strong> costs nothing and remains the tool most brands neglect. Enrolled brands
\nfrequently never open it once, which I find remarkable given what they paid to enroll.<\/p>\n

Project Zero<\/strong> offers self-service counterfeit removal for eligible brands, a different
\nmechanism toward the same end, and I’d check eligibility before paying for codes.<\/p>\n

Fix the listing so hijackers have less to gain.<\/strong> A well-controlled detail page with your own A+ Content

Control your distribution.<\/strong> Many hijacking problems begin with a distributor selling into the wrong
