Private label omega 3 supplements, usually fish oil, krill oil or algal oil softgels, are made by a supplement manufacturer and sold under your brand. Stock softgels make this one of the easier supplements to launch, with published minimums from 500 bottles. Three things decide quality and compliance: freshness (fish oil oxidizes, and buyers notice), how much EPA and DHA each serving really delivers, and what you claim on the label.
I’ll compare manufacturers, explain the freshness tests to ask for, the FDA claim rules, allergen labeling, and Amazon.
Omega-3 manufacturers and minimums
From each company’s own site, checked in October 2026:
| Manufacturer | Location | Published minimum | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Aligen | Miramar, Florida | 500 bottles | Omega-3 softgels |
| Stock Softgels | Hauppauge, New York | 1,000-unit minimums | Fish oil 180/120 and 300/200, krill oil 500 mg |
| Makers Nutrition | Commack, New York | As low as 1,000 | Softgel private label program |
My take: a stock fish oil softgel is the fastest start. Differentiate on concentration, form and freshness proof, not on bottle design alone. Don’t launch a custom concentrate until the basic product sells.
Know your forms
The NIH’s Office of Dietary Supplements notes that a typical fish oil supplement provides about 1,000 mg of fish oil containing 180 mg EPA and 120 mg DHA. Other forms:
- Krill oil: omega-3s mainly as phospholipids.
- Cod liver oil: also provides vitamins A and D.
- Algal oil: usually 100 to 300 mg DHA, sometimes with EPA; the vegan option.
Supplements also differ by chemical form: natural triglycerides, ethyl esters, re-esterified triglycerides and others. When you compare quotes, compare EPA plus DHA per serving, not fish oil milligrams.
Freshness: the test results to ask for
Fish oil oxidizes, which causes fishy burps, bad smell and bad reviews. The industry group GOED publishes a voluntary monograph with limits manufacturers widely reference:
| Measure | GOED maximum |
|---|---|
| Peroxide value | 5 meq/kg |
| Anisidine value | 20 |
| TOTOX (2 × peroxide + anisidine) | 26 |
The monograph also sets limits for heavy metals and contaminants. In my view, ask for these numbers on every batch’s Certificate of Analysis. A supplier that can’t produce them is a supplier to skip.
Claims: what the FDA allows
Qualified health claim. In 2019 the FDA allowed qualified health claims linking EPA and DHA to blood pressure and coronary heart disease, with specific wording. One example: “Consuming EPA and DHA combined may help lower blood pressure in the general population and reduce the risk of hypertension. However, FDA has concluded that the evidence is inconsistent and inconclusive.” Supplements using it must provide at least 0.8 g EPA and DHA per serving.
Dose ceiling. Products using the claim must provide no more than 5 g of EPA and DHA per day when used as labeled, and the NIH notes the FDA has concluded that supplements providing no more than 5 g/day are safe when used as recommended.
Structure/function claims such as “supports heart health” need the standard FDA disclaimer and notification within 30 days of marketing. Disease claims are not allowed.
Honestly, I’d use either the FDA’s exact qualified claim wording or a simple structure/function claim. Improvised heart claims are where supplement brands get letters.
Fish allergen labeling
Fish is a major food allergen, and the FDA’s allergen guidance says labeling requirements cover all packaged foods, including dietary supplements. The specific species must be named, for example anchovy, sardine or cod. Krill is a crustacean shellfish, also a major allergen. Algal oil avoids both.
Selling omega-3 on Amazon
Since April 2, 2024, Amazon has required dietary supplements to be verified through a third-party testing, inspection and certification organization, according to Amazon staff. Build that cost and timeline into your launch. When you list, show EPA and DHA per serving clearly in images; it’s the number serious buyers compare.

FAQ
What is the minimum order for private label omega 3?
Published minimums from US makers start at 500 bottles, with several stock softgel programs at 1,000 units.
What is a good EPA and DHA amount per serving?
A typical fish oil softgel provides about 180 mg EPA and 120 mg DHA. To use the FDA’s qualified health claim, a supplement must provide at least 0.8 g EPA and DHA per serving.
How do I know if fish oil is fresh?
Ask for peroxide, anisidine and TOTOX values on each batch. The GOED monograph’s maximums are 5, 20 and 26.
Can I make heart health claims for fish oil?
Only with the FDA’s qualified health claim wording, or as a structure/function claim with the required disclaimer. Disease claims are not allowed.
Does fish oil need allergen labeling?
Yes. Fish is a major allergen, supplements are covered, and the species must be named.
Is there a vegan private label omega-3?
Yes. Algal oil provides DHA, sometimes with EPA, and avoids fish and shellfish allergens.
